Ramsey, NJ – Led by strong goaltending and an equally strong trio of Senior captains, Don Bosco took to the road for the teams annual trip to Boston in early December. Senior Captain Tyler Sedlak (16 G, 14A) led the Bosco offensive, notching four goals, as the Ironmen defeated defending Massachusetts State Super 8 champion BC High (4-2) at Bentley University.
A quick turnaround the following afternoon, saw the Ironmen take on an an upstart Catholic Memorial (6-2) at Providence College. Captains Liam McLinskey (13 G, 16A) and TJ Schweighardt (8 G, 10 A) led a relentless attack that saw the Ironmen bury 6 six goals to finish the road trip 2-0.
Jumping right back into Gordon conference play, Bosco took two games from rival Bergen Catholic to close out 2018.
The Ironmen continue to reap the rewards of strong goaltending from Senior Max Schwarz, who has been excellent for Don Bosco, going 11-1, with a 1.64 GAA and a 93.1% Save Percentage. Since the calendar has turned to 2019, Max has continued his strong play. Holding Princeton Day to one goal in a 4-1 win and posting a shutout on the road against #2 ranked Delbarton.
Following two more Gordon conference wins over Gloucester Catholic (7-4) and St Augustine’s (7-2), Bosco will begin Bergen County Tournament play against Ramsey on Friday night then take on #3 CBA Sunday, January 20 6:15 pm at home.
Contributions have come from everywhere for the Ironmen, as Sophomores Damien Carfagna (3 G, 10 A), Zach Hammond (5 G, 2 A) along with Juniors Hunter McGee (2 G, 7 A) and Will Fortescue (1 G, 7 A) have provided balance and depth. While Seniors Michael Forgione (2 G, 7 A) and Mark Garfinkel (3 G, 3 A) have played crucial roles during the early part of the season.
