Coach Matteo is entering his 14th year as a member of the Don Bosco Prep Coaching staff. For the past 13 seasons Coach Matteo was the Goaltending Coach across all levels of the program. Chris has been a member of the staff that has won eight straight Bergen County Tournaments, three Gordon Cup Championships, two TK Cups, five NJSIAA Non-Public State Finals appearances, the 2019 NJSIAA Non-Public State Championship and the 2021 Gordon Cup State Championship. In 2021, Coach Matteo will move into a volunteer goaltending coach role and hand over full time duties to former Ironmen, Jarred Liscio.
Prior to coming to Don Bosco, Chris coached with the Jon Elkin Goalie School and the Give Em Nothing School for Goaltenders. He has also worked with USA Hockey representing the Atlantic District as a member of the goaltending selection committee for USA Hockey Festivals from 2007-2010.
Coach Matteo played youth hockey for the Ramapo Saints and NJ Devils and played his high school hockey at Lakeland Regional graduating in 2002, where he was named First Team All-State and Red Division MVP in his senior season. He represented Team New Jersey at two Chicago Showcase tournaments (2001 & 2002) and played Junior Hockey for the Avalanche in the Metropolitan Junior league.
After his youth career, Chris went on to play at Penn State University where he won Rookie of the Year (2003), the prestigious Whipple Community Service Award (2006), Section E Fan Favorite Award (2007), the Penn State Players Player Award (2007), and Honorable Mention ACHA All- Tournament team (2007). By the end of his career with the Penn State Icers, Coach Matteo was third in wins and second in shutouts.
Coach Matteo currently resides in Hudson County.
